From Peru :: Wearables

In my estimation, Peruvian garb is as varied and vivid as the country’s changing landscapes and beautifully diverse people. From daily dress to ceremony, clothing can range from simple to incredibly elaborate. I’ve also often observed traditional tribal attire mixed with modern garb: warm-up jackets, trucker caps, you name it.

Featured product ::

Chullo

A prototypical example of highland Quechua clothing (and one of my dad’s favorites), chullos are traditionally woven by men from sheep wool or alpaca. A man is rarely seen without a chullo from the time his father first knits it for him. A young boy’s chullo is usually beaded in white, and adorned with long tassels called t’ikas – flowers from the ears.

Chuspa Bags

Prized gifts among Quechua people, chuspa bags are designed for carrying coca leaves. Draped around the neck, these doll-like chuspas assure that the traditional remedy for altitude sickness and many digestive ailments is always close at hand. Don’t leave home with out one!

Tales From The Trails

Wet paint

A beautiful day in the Cusco town square took a disturbing turn. Posing for a photo on a park bench (dad's suggestion) seemed innocent enough. Until I got up and realized my rear was covered with paint. Evidently, “wet paint” signs aren’t too popular in Cusco.
